Belgium Dough Bowl

Early Antique Dough Bowl c 1900's, elm wood, hand-carved from one tree. This particular one has a good pale colour and is in lovely condition with no cracks or splits. These  bowls were originally passed down from mother to daughter and were originally used for letting the bread dough rise, as the wood forms a natural insulation that keeps the yeast warm. Today they make a handsome fruit bowl or a barely there sculptural statement.
